I conceptualise and design cognitively-informed AI systems in healthcare
I bring neuroscience, human factors, UX design, and clinical experience together to help AI earn trust in clinical settings.
My journey
I was born and raised in Italy, near Venice, where my academic path began with a degree in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Padova, specialising in Neuropsychology and Cognitive Rehabilitation. Along the way I became fascinated with human-computer interaction and its intersection with health and neuroscience. I spent a year at the University of Helsinki and a year at the Human Inspired Technology Research Centre in Padova exploring the discipline further, then completed clinical training at the Heart Surgery Department of the University Hospital of Padova and qualified as a Psychologist.
Research drew me back for an M.Res and PhD at University College London, where I investigated the design and adoption of AI decision-support systems for the care of Alzheimer’s Disease patients — collaborating with Icometrix, an imaging AI company in Belgium, and research groups across Europe. That work took me to conferences worldwide and into peer-reviewed publication (ACM CHI 2021, ACM CSCW 2023), and revealed a pattern I still see today: adoption failures in clinical AI are predictable, arising from mismatches between how systems present information and how clinicians actually reason under time pressure. Volunteering with One HealthTech showed me what this meant for digital health more broadly.
After the PhD, I moved into industry — first as an intern at Ctrl-Group, then as a Clinical UX Researcher and Designer. Since 2021, I have worked as a Principal UX Designer at Medtronic – Digital Technologies, in the evolving and stimulating world of digitalising surgical practice. My work has spanned developing scenario-based training in virtual reality, shaping innovative AI tools for clinical adoption, and designing systems for managing sensitive patient data and infrastructure.
Alongside my day-to-day work, I mentor professionals and researchers navigating their next career step, and speak and write about designing for AI adoption in healthcare. Outside of it, you will usually find me running, singing, and spending time with my beautiful family.
